About Me

As an individual I have a warm, engaging, compassionate and supportive nature. Prior to training as a therapist I had a varied background, with my beginnings rooted in sport. Throughout the majority of my younger adult life I felt consistently unhappy, disconnected, lost and never really fulfilled. I was always searching for external sources to validate me, but nothing really gave me that sense of purpose or meaning that I craved. There have been significant events in my life that have changed my perception and outlook overall. Going through my own difficulties and struggles (like we all can), has given me a deeper sense of who I am. On my journey I also accessed therapeutic support on several occasions for the issues I faced – which helped significantly. These events, and others, were influential in my decision to train as a therapist, in the hope that I can assist those who are trying to make sense of their own existence and experiences of living in this world.

My experience

Along with practicing privately as a therapist, my experience as a counsellor has included working within four large organisations: a service that specialises in mental health support; a large cancer charity; a wellbeing service for students; and an association supporting individuals from sporting backgrounds.

With my wide range of previous experience in the sport and fitness world, I can utilise my knowledge base with specific clients who wish to embrace a more holistic approach to therapy.

In addition, I have also had extensive experience of working within addiction groups; spent over a decade in the performance industry through acting; and was employed for a number of years supporting adults with various learning difficulties in mental health hospitals and community homes.

My Master’s degree was researching Eating Disorders in males, which has enabled me to gain a deeper understanding of the complex issues males (and females) face with this condition.
