Terms and Conditions

As a practitioner I work as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist or alternatively as a Hypnotherapist. Please note: these are different professions with separate governing bodies. The information that I record will differ, depending of course on which therapy you choose. This will be explained and made clearer at your chosen therapy’ initial consultation. The terms and conditions highlighted below are in place to offer transparency, and to clarify what is expected of you when using this service as a whole. (Please read my Privacy Notice for information on how I safeguard your data).

Confidentiality:
Confidentiality is of extreme importance in the work that I carry out. It is imperative that you feel able to talk privately and in confidence during our sessions knowing that no information will be shared with third parties. There are however a few exceptions were confidentiality may need to be broken. These include:

  • In certain circumstances where I believe that you or someone else is at serious risk. In this instance I would endeavour, if possible, to inform you in advance if outside agencies would need to be involved.
  • Where the law may require me to do so without informing you or gaining your consent. Examples can include: the Terrorism Act (2006); the Children Act (1989/2004); Drug Trafficking Act (1994); the Road Traffic Act (1988/1991); and Court Orders.

Supervision:
It is a requirement that I attend regular supervision. The main focus of supervision is to support me in my practice and ensure that I work in the best interests of all my clients. In supervision I may discuss some of the material raised from our sessions, during which your identity would be protected. The supervisor that regulates my work is also bound by confidentiality.

Therapy sessions and fees:
For Counselling and Psychotherapy sessions our initial consultation will take place between 60-75 minutes, with our subsequent sessions lasting 60 minutes. The cost for each session is currently £60.

For Hypnotherapy sessions our initial consultation will take place for 60 minutes at a cost of £30, with subsequent sessions also lasting 60 minutes at a cost of £60. (For fees page click here).

Method of payment can be by cash on the day or by bank transfer (details upon request) prior to each session.

Frequency of appointments can be negotiated in line with your needs but usually take place weekly or fortnightly. We can discuss the number of sessions required as we progress, and can review this on a regular basis if necessary.

Please attend your appointment approximately five minutes before your allotted time, as I may be with another client if you arrive too early. Any session that begins after the agreed time due to late arrival cannot be extended beyond the agreed finish time.

Subject to session availability, a reduction can be offered to students and means tested clients with financial difficulties at a cost of £50 (counselling/hypnotherapy). Proof of status will be necessary for the reduction. Please discuss this with me directly.

*Please note: my fees for large organisations will cost £70 per hour for both counselling & hypnotherapy.

*Please note: I review my fees on an annual basis, and during this period there may be a need to increase the cost of sessions. If this were to take place, then existing clients would remain on the fee agreed at the start of our work.

Cancellation policy:
I accept that on occasions an appointment may need to be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. It is essential that you contact me as soon as possible, by telephone or e-mail (details here), if you are unable to make your appointment. You will be charged for your session in full if you fail to notify me 24 hours prior your appointment time.

I will give you as much notice as possible regarding any absence on my part. If I cannot meet with you because of illness or an unexpected circumstance, I will endeavour to offer you an alternative time.

Contact between sessions:
This typically refers to practical matters, such as: arranging or re-scheduling an appointment.

If, by chance, we happen to come across each other between sessions (for example: at a supermarket), then the usual protocol would be that I would follow your lead in acknowledging each other or not, as I understand that you may not wish to explain to another (examples: friend, family member, work colleague) that you are receiving support from a therapist.

Please note: I do not accept any social media or LinkedIn requests, due to the nature of my role.

Please note that when working online and over the telephone:
I offer online therapy to adult individuals who reside in the United Kingdom only, and when agreeing to work together online, all aspects of our working agreement shall be in accordance with the laws of England and Wales, and subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English Courts.

Ethical Commitment/Complaints:
Counselling & Psychotherapy: I am a accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and abide by their ethical framework of practice: www.bacp.co.uk/events-and-resources/ethics-and-standards/ethical-framework-for-the-counselling-professions/

Hypnotherapy: I am a full member of the National Counsel for Hypnotherapy (NCH) and abide by their code of ethics: hypnotherapists.org.uk/about-nch/code-of-ethics/

*Please note: If you have any concerns or complaints please raise these with me in the first instance. If this is not adequate or appropriate you can discuss your concern(s) with the relevant governing bodies above if necessary.

My website uses Google Analytics (GA), which is a web analytics service offered by Google (a platform). Like most websites the information collected reports and tracks website traffic, along with recording IP addresses which can personally identify an individual. Google sets a cookie (see below) in order to evaluate an individual’s use of a web site and compiles reports on the activity. If you wish to read more information on Google Analytics, then visit: https://developers.google.com/analytics/. By using my website you consent to the processing of data about you by Google.

My website uses cookies. These are small files which ask for your permission to be placed on your computer’s hard drive so that analysis of web traffic can take place. Although a great deal of web browsers automatically accept cookies, you can modify your settings to disable them if you choose. Please note: if you do decide to disable cookies you may find that you cannot make full use of my website. For advice about managing or deleting cookies, then visit: http://www.aboutcookies.org/.

My website has an SSL certificate (the small padlock icon before the URL at the top of your page) in place, this helps provide security for online communications from a web server to a browser. Please note: if you choose to get in touch with me by completing the website form (which asks for your name, phone, email and message – under contact me) I would always recommend that an individual keeps personal sensitive information in the message section (such as, material surrounding health and so forth) to a minimum, as we can discuss these areas in more detail at a later date, for example, when we meet at the initial consultation.

My website also uses a service from Google called reCaptcha. This service is in place to protect websites from spam and abuse. It is a turning test, which helps to identify a human user and an automated user (‘bots’) apart, helping to minimise online risk by analysing the potential abusive activities from malicious software and alike.
